:
Consignment—What Is It Good For?
Depending on who you ask, consignment is either the start of an incredibly profitable working relationship, or the path to financial ruin. If you have spent any amount of time selling jewelry to stores, chances are you have run into an account asking for work on consignment. Whether you have decided to pass, or decided to forge ahead, this talk will give you good questions to ask, guidelines to make it work for you, and methods to decide if consignment is right for your jewelry. Learn to manage it better and keep your sanity and your bank account intact.

Sharon Z is a jewelry designer & consultant who thinks wielding a torch is pretty bad-ass & wants to show you how to use it for good- https://sharonzjewelry.com
Are you interested in learning more about ethical Are you interested in learning more about ethical sourcing for your jewelry business? If so, join us for a discussion with Ana Brazaityte (@trussandore) during Metalsmithing Day on April 3rd from 1-4pm at the Richmond Art Center.
:
What is ethical sourcing? Here is what Ana has to say: “At the root of it all is aligning our values with our sourcing decisions, and for me, this means finding ways that materials sourcing can have a positive impact on people and planet. And although there are some certifications that we can look for to help make decisions, it still means asking lots of questions.” Join Ana as she talks about recycled metals, some misconceptions around that topic, as well as ethically sourcing gemstones.
:
About Ana:
As far as my background and industry groups, I work with Christina T Miller Sustainable Jewelry Consulting (@christinatmiller) where we provide guidance for small to medium sized businesses on responsible sourcing topics. I am also a co-chair of the Action Coalition at Ethical Metalsmiths (@ethicalmetalsmiths) where I am currently focused on a consumer awareness campaign around Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining and how it is beneficial in solving some deeply rooted issues in the industry (ie: colonialist exploitation), as well as how recycled gold fails to address issues. Additionally, I'm a contributor to the Jewelry Glossary Project (@jewelryglossaryproject), which is an initiative to get folks on the same page on definitions of commonly used (and misused) words and marketing language in the industry.
