April event highlights!

With our recent visits to both Macchiarini Creative Design + Metalworks SF (MAG Mixer) and CCA for our annual Metalsmithing Day, April has been a very busy month! As I sit here and think about what I want to write for this post, a feeling of gratitude comes to the forefront. Grateful that we have such a wonderful metal arts community. Grateful to the people who volunteer their time and energy to make these events happen. And grateful to have the support of our members and each of the local businesses, schools, and other organizations that provide MAG with a foundation to build on.

On that note, I would like share photos from our recent April events!

If you are not already familiar with Macchiarini Creative Design + Metalworks SF, you really should plan a trip to the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco right away! Founded in 1948 by Peter Macchiarini, also instrumental in the studio jewelry movement in San Francisco, Macchiarini Creative Design + Metalworks SF is truly a legacy business. Peter’s son Dan and his Granddaughter Emma now run the show and have gone on to create Metalworks SF, a jewelry school located in the studio space behind the gallery. Thank you Dan and Emma for hosting our members during the art crawl!

Our second April event was out Annual Metalsmithing Day at CCA (A huge thank you to Curtis Arima and CCA!) We like to mix up the format of this event each year and this time we brought in four MAG members for live demos. Curtis Arima showed us a new take on stone setting. Candy Chu demonstrated how to create your own enamel shards. Jack da Silva showed us how to create an anticlastic bracelet and Raissa Bump demonstrated various stretches designed specifically for makers.

Enjoy, and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!
