The Metal Arts Guild and Lireille – Gallery of Contemporary Jewelry and Art - are excited to present the 2010 All-Member Exhibition. Lireille is a museum-style gallery featuring contemporary art, jewelry and fine arts from emerging and nationally acclaimed artists. Lireille is dedicated to promoting art jewelry awareness and availability to the public and to expanding the creativity boundaries in art jewelry. This is a great opportunity for all MAG members -- professionals, emerging artists and students -- to share work with the Bay Area community. Early submission offers a significant possibility that your work may be used in announcements and promotion of the exhibition. October 29 – December 5 Fo more information: All-Member Exhibition 2010 |

2010 Annual MAG Metalsmithing Day BART: Ashby or Downtown Berkeley Don’t miss this year’s MAG Metalsmithing Day--your chance to meet and catch up with fellow metalsmiths, see what MAG has in store for the year ahead, and hear from world renowned artist, June Schwartz. California Living Treasure & Enamelist JUNE SCHWARTZ will give a presentation on her iconic electroformed vessels and process from paper maquette to enamel finish. Her work is in the permanent collections of the De Young Museum, the Met, MAD NY, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and many others. MEET THE BOARD - Information on upcoming events, opportunities and an open forum for members to become involved with future programs. If you make jewelry-wear it! Refreshments will be served. Presentation by June Schwartz Over the decades that June has been creating enamel pieces, her bowls and abstract vessels have come to be synonymous with the medium itself. Working from her Sausalito home studio, Schwarcz begins her process with a three dimensional maquette made out of paper. Next, she builds the vessel using thin copper sheets or metal mesh. She then has the form electroplated to render it sturdy enough to undergo the enameling process. Finally, she carefully applies enamel. "I'm very drawn to subtle colorations and the quality of light, maybe because I live with a lot of fog -- or maybe I like light behind a little bit of obscurity. Lots of people wish I'd do brighter, stronger things, but by now I figure, 'I'm old and I can do what I want." |
